Specimen Yo-Yo is a pre workout supplement from Glaxon. Powered by 3.2 g Beta-Alanine, 1g L-Tyrosine, 400 mg Caffeine, 300 mg Cholinace (™), 3 mg Alpha Yo, and others, this product will have you brimming with energy, a strong sense of urgency, and a laser-type focus.

Supp Kingz was kind enough to send me some samples.

I tried it twice, and every time the energy was incredibly potent and the focus strong.

I’d recommend this for anyone who has taken pre workouts before, can tolerate 3 mg of Alpha Yo and 400 mg of caffeine, and prioritizes energy in their pre workout. Specimen Yo-Yo doesn’t have many pump ingredients, so this is really for those who only want energy and focus.

Read on for additional details of my experience, the best prices for the Specimen Yo-Yo pre workout, and a breakdown of its ingredient label.

My Experience

I took Specimen Yo-Yo twice, and both times, it hit hard, like being shot out of a cannon with energy.

Effects

You can buy Specimen Yo-Yo Pre Workout at the following retailers:

Specimen Yo-Yo is focused on energy, focus, and thermogenic effects with not much towards pumps and mood-elevation.

In most products with beta-alanine, the first effect is the tingles, but with this, it was the energy. After about five minutes, a strong sense of urgency and power came over me and made me want to move. It didn’t matter where; I just had to move.

After about two hours, the energy goes from intense to smooth and is like that for about another 60 minutes to two hours.

The beta-alanine tingles began after 10 minutes and lasted for a good 25 minutes. Out of 10 for intensity, I’d give it an 8.

The focus was noticeably strong on this product, with a singular-target type focus.

I sweated far more than average on this product and felt more warm than usual as well.

Alpha Yo effects were apparent (extra sweating, more thirsty), but the only negative side effect I encountered were increased saliva and cleared out sinus cavities.

I noted no post-workout crash.

Flavor

The flavor I tried was Watermelon; it was pleasant and mild (more of a candy watermelon than the fruit). I noticed no bitter or chemical taste. Out of 10, I’d give it an 8.5. Other flavors include Alien Pop, Mandarin Orange, Texas Red, and Cinco de Mango.

Scoop Size

A full serving of Specimen Yo-Yo is 15 grams. 14.4 grams is pictured here.

I got 2 sample packets, and both were about 14.4 grams in size.

Ingredients

Specimen Yo-Yo Ingredient Label
Specimen Yo-Yo Ingredient Label

Beta-Alanine – 3,200 mg

The standard dosage for beta-alanine is 3.2g, which, taken consistently, has been shown to improve muscular endurance by acting as a lactic acid buffer in muscles; this is the ingredient that gives you the “tingles.”

The tingles (paraesthesia) started after 10 minutes and lasted for a good 25 minutes. Out of 10 for intensity, I’d give it an 8.

Betaine Nitrate (NO3-T ®) – 2,000

Nitrate (NO3–) is a small molecule produced in the body in limited amounts (as a byproduct of nitric oxide). It is obtainable via vegetables, particularly beetroot and other low-calorie tuber vegetables such as turnips and leafy green vegetables such as spinach or rocket.

From Examine, noted benefits of nitrates, in general, are: reduction of blood pressure when the blood pressure is raised, regulatory of blood flow and vasodilation, reducing the oxygen cost of exercise (allowing you to go longer), and is kidney protective.

Betaine Anhydrous – 1,250 mg

Betaine is included to help increase your power output. However, research is pretty inconsistent around this claim. Since the typical range for Betaine is between 1.5 g and upwards of 5 g, the 1.25 g included is underdosed.

Astrolyte (™) Electrolyte Blend – 1,000 mg

It is a combination of four electrolytes, fructooligosaccharides, magnesium citrate (yielding 32 mg of magnesium per serving), sodium chloride (yielding 100 mg and 157 mg of sodium and chloride, respectively per serving), and potassium citrate (yielding 61 mg of potassium per serving).

Not much is known about the blend itself. Still, from Glaxon’s site, they state that “Glaxon Astrolyte™ Hydrating Electrolytes can help alleviate some of that risk by providing you with the ability to consume a beverage that promotes rehydration, refuels your body with the critical minerals you lost through sweat and allows you the ability to maintain a high level of performance and endurance during strenuous activity.”

Electrolytes like sodium, magnesium, potassium, and calcium can help your cells retain water and prevent dehydration while you exercise. Even a water loss as slight as 1-2% of your body weight can result in declines in focus, speed, and strength.

Taurine – 1,000 mg

Taurine is a “miscellaneous” pre workout ingredient with a range of potential, albeit limited, physical benefits. It can aid in blood flow, reduce cramping, and boost antioxidant defense systems (Examine). It’s a pretty insignificant ingredient in pre workout compared to other components but doesn’t hurt anything either.

One gram is a solid dosage of taurine to achieve any effects it has to offer. Usually, other products have 500 mg to 2 grams.

L-Tyrosine – 1,000 mg

L-Tyrosine helps “smooth out” some of the harsher effects of stimulants and increases focus. Some limited research also shows it can act as a cognitive booster in stressful environments.

One gram is a substantial dosage and lands within the range recommended for use in an exercise setting.

Yerba santa (Eriodycton californicum) [Aerial Parts] Extract (as SantEnergy ™) Nu) – 400 mg

From Ideactifs, benefits include: natural metabolism boost from santa herba, ADORA2A-mediated, caffeine-like energizing effects have been confirmed in a nematode locomotion study, proven high antioxidative capacity and prevention of advanced glycation end-product formation, loss of body weight and body fat demonstrated in a placebo-controlled clinical trial. That site states that the daily recommended dosage is 400 mg, while Specimen Yo-Yo contains.

Caffeine Anhydrous – 400 mg

The Big Poppa of stimulant supplements is in your coffee, tea, soda, heck; it may even be in your sweets and gum (some confectioners add caffeine to their sweets for a kick). Well known for increasing energy, power, and focus, it’s the staple ingredient in all stim-based products.

400 mg is on the upper end of the range you mostly see in pre workout supplements nowadays (usually ranging between 250 and 450).

Cholinace (™) – 300 mg

Choliance is a blend of choline DL-bitartrate (as VitaCholine ™), Alpha GPC, and citicoline. Together they may boost cognition and maximal power output; research is very minimal. Usually, Alpha GPC is dosed between 300 and 600 mg, Choline DL-bitartrate between 500 and 2,000 mg, and Citicholine between 250 and 500 mg.

L-Theanine – 100 mg

L-Theanine is a sedating amino acid that promotes relaxation and takes the edge off caffeine to prevent a crash. 100 mg is a good amount, as too much can put a substantial damper on an otherwise solid product.

Halostachys Capsica [Aerial Parts] Extract (Std. to 80% Halostachine) – 60 mg

Halostachys Capsica is a natural source of halostachine, a stimulating alkaloid structurally similar to ephedrine.

Halostachine is an alkaloid structurally similar to β-PEA, which is a bit more commonly seen in pre workout supplements. It acts as a stimulant and can enhance focus and mood. At a yield of 48 mg of halostachine, this falls in the range you’ll usually see in other pre workout products, which range between 40 mg and 100 mg.

Rauwolfia Vomitoria [Leaf] Extract – 3 mg

Also known as Alpha Yohimbine or simply “Alpha Yo,” it is a central nervous system stimulant. It can be pretty divisive, with some individuals reporting anxiety, headaches, sweating, chills, and increased blood pressure.

I rarely get any of the noted side effects that come with this controversial ingredient, but for this, I did. The most noticeable effects were increased saliva and cleared out sinus cavities.

3 mg is on the higher end you’ll see, which ranges from 0.5 mg to 5 mg.

Yohimbe (Pausinytalia johimbe) [Root Bark] Extract – 2 mg

From NCCIH, Yohimbe is an evergreen tree native to central and western Africa. It has a compound called yohimbine in its bark. Yohimbe is promoted for erectile dysfunction, athletic performance, weight loss, angina (chest pain caused by not enough blood flow to the heart), high blood pressure, diabetic neuropathy, and more. I am unsure if this is the Hydrochloride version or just the plant in general (yielding more than just Yohimbe HCl).

Specimen Yo-Yo Pre Workout Review (Glaxon)
4.2

Summary

Specimen Yo-Yo is a thermogenic, potent stimulant, and hyperfocus product. Powered by 3.2 g Beta-Alanine, 1g L-Tyrosine, 400 mg Caffeine, 300 mg Cholinace (™), 3 mg Alpha Yo, and others, this product will have you feeling like you got shot a swift kick to the behind and brimming with intense energy, a powerful sense of urgency, and a laser-type focus.

I’d recommend this for anyone who has at least taken pre workouts before and can take Alpha Yo and 400 mg of caffeine and wants energy most importantly (and focus secondarily) and doesn’t care for pump ingredients.

Had it had more ingredients towards pumps and mood-elevation, I’d easily give it a higher score.

Pros

● It had intense energy that lasted 3-4 hours.

● Incredible focus

● Open-label

● Strong thermogenic effects

● No crash

● No adverse side effects.

Cons

● Alpha Yo effects might be too much (for some)

● The product needs more ingredients in terms of pumps.

● Product requires more ingredients in terms of mood-elevation.
