Hypnos is a sleep aid supplement manufactured by Chaos and Pain. It is also described as a “lucid dreaming” aid, though I have not noticed any of those effects.
Nutri Cartel was kind enough to send me over a sample to review.
Overall, I enjoyed Hypnos and continue to use it once or twice a week. A full serving was too strong for me and left me groggy in the morning. To solve for this, I reduced my serving size to just 1/4 of the recommended serving and that worked nicely for me.
I’d recommend Hypnos to those looking for a supplement to help them fall asleep faster and stay asleep. I also recommend starting with 1/2 a dose to gauge how it impacts your wakefulness in the morning.
Below you’ll find my detailed experience along with a full ingredient label breakdown.

My Experience with Hypnos
I’ve used Hypnos many times over the last few months.
Personally, I prefer Hibernate Sleep Aid because Hypnos leaves me a bit too groggy in the morning.
However, by adjusting the dosage to just 1/4 of the recommended dosage (about 1 gram instead of the full 4 gram serving) I was able to find a dosage that worked for me. At 1 gram, I was able to essentially eliminate the grogginess that I was experiencing at 2 gram and 4 gram doses.
I’m not sure which ingredient is creating the grogginess for me, but I’m guessing it’s the L-tryptophan or hops flower extract, as most of the other ingredients are also found in Hibernate.
Anyway, I’m fine with taking a 1/4 dosage of Hypnos, as that means I get over 150 doses per tub!
So is it strong? Yes, it definitely works for me. It helps me fall asleep faster and fall back asleep when I invariably wake up in the night. Very few supplements actually lead to me not continuing to wake up during the night, but with Hypnos I usually am able to fall back asleep faster.
Side Effects
As I noted above, I experienced grogginess up waking when taking a full or half dosage of Hypnos. A 1/4 dosage (1 gram) ended up working for me.
I am not really sure which ingredient is causing this side effect for me.
Flavor
I had Lemonberry Nectar. It’s nice and lemony. I have no complaints.
Hypnos Ingredients
Hypnos contains a variety of relaxation ingredients, including ZMA, L-Theanine, GABA, Valerian Root Extract, and Melatonin.

Magnesium Aspartate – 25 mg
Magnesium commonly combined with zinc in recovery supplements, commonly referred to as ZMA. Magnesium can help lengthen stage 3 and stage 4 slow-wave sleep, which is crucial for the release of growth hormones.
Unfortunately, the 25 mg of magnesium aspartate included in a serving of Hypnos is significantly lower than what is typically used in clinical studies of ZMA (400 mg to 500 mg).
Zinc Picolinate – 6.3 mg
Supplementing with zinc can help boost testosterone production in individuals who are already zinc deficient. Unfortunately, the 6 mg of zinc included in each serving of Hypnos is lower than the typical serving size in ZMA, which is about 30 mg.
GABA – 500 mg
GABA is a neurotransmitter that is critical for the regulation of depressive and sedative actions in the brain as well as general relaxation. It also can enhance the metabolism of growth hormone.
500 mg is significantly lower than anecdotal dosage accounts and the amount found in Hibernate Sleep Aid.
L-Theanine – 450 mg
L-Theanine is a somewhat sedative amino acid, noted for promoting relaxation and pairing well with caffeine.
450 mg is within the recommended range for sleep aids.
Valerian Root Extract – 300 mg
Valerian Root Powder is an herbal supplement known for reducing stress and making it easier to fall asleep. The magnitude of these effects are relatively small.
300 mg is lower than the standard dosage of 450 mg.
L-Tryptophan – 250 mg
Hops Flower Extract – 50 mg
Mucuna Pruriens Extract – 50 mg
Also known as Velvet Bean, mucuna pruriens extract is a traditional herbal supplement with minor dopamine increasing and cortisol reducing effects, among other things.
One of the more reliable effects it has is a noticeable reduction in Parkinson’s Disease symptoms, though that is not relevant here.
I’m not sure if the dosage included here, 50 mg, is sufficient for stress reduction, though to be honest those effects are quite minor anyway. By comparison, Hibernate contains 250 mg of mucuna pruriens extract.
Passion Flower – 30 mg
The variety of passion flower extract included in Hibernate, Passiflora incarnata, has been associated with anxiety reduction and insomnia treatment.
Again, the dosage here (30 mg) is much lower than standard dosages, which range from 260 mg to 1,000 mg. It’s worth noting that these dosages were taken to reduce pre-surgery anxiety, which is a different use case than simply falling asleep at the end of the day.
Melatonin – 2 mg
Melatonin is a hormone that is naturally produced in the body in order to help induce sleep.
2 mg is a pretty standard dosage of melatonin.
