My Experience with Phenom
I took Phenom just one time, but that one time was able to feel the effects of it, mainly energy, pumps, and focus
Effects
The main aspects of this product are focus, mood, energy with light pumps.
Beta-Alanine tingles came in after 10-12 minutes, and they lasted a good 25-30 minutes and were pretty intense—roughly an 8 out of 10 for the intensity of the tingles.
Within 10 minutes, a super dialed-in type of focus set in and lasted throughout the workout.
Within 25 minutes of taking the product, a sense of happiness came over me, not insane euphoria, just a good mood.
One thing about the mood and focus; for whatever reason, throughout my workout, they would be in a tug-of-war with each other. I was going from hyper-focused to pretty freaking happy for four hours.
Within 15 minutes, smooth energy came over me and wasn’t over-powering, but lasted a substantial 5 hours.
Pumps were the one missing factor with this product, especially Citrulline Malate and Agmatine Sulfate for pumps.
The thermogenic effects were pretty nice, and I was sweating a tad more than expected.
No adverse effects were noted, including from Alpha Yo.
Flavor
The flavor I tried was “Hawaiian Punch’D,” which was a mild fruit punch type flavor. Instead of an ordinary fruit punch, this had a more tropical taste to it.
Along with being a mild flavor, it was also slightly sweet with little to no bitter or chemical taste. Other flavors include Gummy Bear and Bomb Pop.
Scoop Size
A whole serving is 10.232 grams. As you can see below, it’s just under a level scoop.
Here’s a side view of a full 10.2 gram serving of Phenom pre workout in the scooper.
Phenom Ingredients
You can find the Phenom pre workout ingredient label below, along with a full breakdown of each ingredient.
Beta-Alanine – 3,200 mg
This is the standard dose for beta-alanine, which, taken consistently, has been shown to improve muscular endurance by acting as a lactic acid buffer in muscles; this is the ingredient that gives you the “tingles.”
Citrulline Malate – 3,000 mg
Citrulline Malate, aka L-Citrulline Malate, is one of the most common pre-workout ingredients. It has extensive evidence supporting its effects on increasing nitric oxide production, power output, pumps, blood flow, and endurance.
Usually, with L-Citrulline Malate, it has a 2:1 Ratio of Citrulline and Malic Acid (hence the Malate), but with Phenom, it doesn’t state the ratio you might be getting 2 grams of pure L-Citrulline. But if the ratio is 2:1, then it would give you the 4-gram effective dose.
Agmatine Sulfate – 1,500mg
Agmatine Sulfate is included as a “pump” ingredient, but research is more limited on this ingredient vs. the classic L-Citrulline. The 1,500 mg found in Phenom is within the range you’d typically see in a pre-workout supplement with Agmatine Sulfate, which occasionally ranges between 500mg and 1,500mg.
Sadly there is a prop blend containing the stimulants.
It is a 902 mg blend of Caffeine Anhydrous (at 350 mg), Guarana Seed Extract (22% Caffeine), 1,3 Dimethylbutylamine HCL (aka DMBA), 2-amino-6-methylheptane (aka DMHA), and Rauwolscine HCL (Alpha Yo).
If I had to guess the doses of each ingredient, I’d say 350 mg Caffeine, 200 mg Guarana Seed Extract (44 mg extra caffeine), 200 mg 1,3 DMBA, 150 mg DMHA, and 2 mg Alpha Yo, although I could be off.
Caffeine Anhydrous – 350 mg
The Big Poppa of stimulant supplements is in your coffee, tea, soda, heck; it may even be in your sweets and gum (some confectioners add caffeine to their sweets for a kick). Well known for increasing energy, power, and focus, it’s the staple ingredient in all stim-based products. 350 mg is in the middle range you mostly see in pre-workout supplements nowadays (usually ranging between 250 and 450).
Guarana Seed Extract (22% Caffeine)
Paullinia cupana, also known as guarana, is a fruit-bearing tree. The seeds are ground into powder and used in traditional Amazonian medicine.
Guarana is supplemented primarily for its stimulant properties. It has a 22% yield of caffeine, meaning if my 200 mg estimation was correct, the guarana seed in this product would give you 44 mg of actual caffeine, for a total of 394 mg of caffeine. Guarana Seed Extract caffeine tends to be stronger.
1,3 Dimethylbutylamine HCL
1,3 dimethylbutylamine HCL, also known as 1,3 DMBA, DMBA, 4-amino-2-methylpentane, AMP, or AMP Citrate, is a very rare stimulant nowadays (this is, as I know, the only product that contains it). Still, about a decade or so ago, it was more commonplace.
It’s in the realm of DMHA in terms of effects on motivation, energy, and mood
2-Amino-6-Methylheptane
2-Amino-6-Methyl Heptane HCL, more commonly referred to as DMHA, is a complex hitting stimulant known for providing energy, euphoria, and motivation.
DMHA is quite similar to DMAA in terms of effects; it just requires a larger dosage. This made it a popular pre-workout ingredient for replacing DMAA.
As the purity and source of these types of ingredients vary considerably, the dosage is less critical. You never know what you’re getting. With that said, you typically see between 100 mg to 200 mg range of DMHA in other pre-workouts with DMHA.
Rauwolscine HCL
Alpha Yohimbine, also known as “alpha yo,” is a polarizing stimulant. Some individuals are particularly susceptible to alpha yohimbine and will always avoid any pre-workout containing it.
Common adverse side effects could include anxiety, headaches, chills, sweating, frequent urination, excessive salivation, and increased blood pressure.
I didn’t get any adverse side effects, minus sweating, but the energy is given caused me to move more and thus sweat more.
A typical dose ranges anywhere between 1-4 mg, with those sensitive to Alpha Yo should be wary.
For long-lasting energy with amazing focus and wonderful mood elevation, Phenom is worth a look.
Only for those comfortable with "grey market" stims like DMBA and DMHA.
