My Experience
I took Relentless two different times, once with two full scoops and once with 1.5 scoops worth.
As good as Relentless is with two full scoops, the effects on 1.5 scoops are incredible, just more amplified on two scoops.
Most people could probably enjoy this pre workout at 1.5 scoops, which stretches the number of servings per tub to 30.
Effects
The main aspects of this product are focus, pumps, energy.
The Beta-Alanine tingles did take a while to come in, about 12-15 minutes. Most likely because there is no digestion aid, and it’s a reasonably large serving. They lasted a decent 30-40 minutes, but the intensity wasn’t that strong. Maybe a 7 out of 10 for intensity.
The energy comes in within 10 minutes and is very smooth throughout the workout, and lasts a substantial 4-6 hours with zero crash.
Within 15 minutes, the focus arrived, and it was extreme without having any illicit ingredients.
Despite just having L-Citrulline, the pumps are incredible, especially on two scoops.
Even with having a reasonably large serving size of 37 grams, there are no stomach issues.
Flavor
The flavor I tried was Blueberry Lemonade. It was a relatively mild flavor, sweet and sour: no chemical or bitter taste or after-taste. Out of 10, I’d give it an 8.75. Only one other flavor is available in Cherry Cotton Candy.
Scoop Size
A whole serving is two scoops, clocking in at a staggering 37 grams.
Ingredients
Here are the Relentless Pre Workout ingredients, along with a breakdown of each ingredient.
L-Citrulline – 10,000 mg
L-Citrulline is one of the most common pre-workout ingredients. It has extensive evidence supporting its effects on increasing nitric oxide production, power output, and endurance.
Although most research uses a variation known as L-Citrulline Malate (2:1), anecdotal evidence supports that L-Citrulline delivers much of the same benefit.
When included as pure L-Citrulline, we like to see 4 grams as the dosage, but Relentless gives you 150% more and 7.5 grams on 1.5 scoops.
Betaine Anhydrous – 5,000 mg
Betaine is included to help increase your power output. However, research is pretty inconsistent around this claim. Five grams is at the highest dose of this ingredient I’ve ever seen, where typically it is between 1.5 g and upwards of 5 g.
On 1.5 scoops, it would be 3.75 grams.
Beta-Alanine – 5,000 mg
This is well above the standard dosage for beta-alanine of 3.2 grams, which, taken consistently, has been shown to improve muscular endurance by acting as a lactic acid buffer in muscles; this is the ingredient that gives you the “tingles.”
On 1.5 scoops, it would be 3.75 grams.
Taurine – 2,000 mg
Taurine is a “miscellaneous” pre-workout ingredient with a range of potential, albeit limited, physical benefits. It can aid in blood flow, reduce cramping, and act as a booster to antioxidant defense systems (Examine). It’s a pretty insignificant ingredient in pre-workout compared to other ingredients but doesn’t hurt anything either.
Two grams is a solid dosage of taurine to achieve any effects it has to offer. Usually, other products have 500 mg to 2 grams.
On 1.5 scoops, it would be 1.5 grams.
L-Tyrosine – 2,000 mg
L-Tyrosine helps “smooth out” some of the harsher effects of stimulants and increases focus. Some limited research also shows it can act as a cognitive booster in stressful environments.
Two grams is a very high dosage and lands within the range recommended for use in an exercise setting.
On 1.5 scoops, it would be 1.5 grams.
DMAE – 800 mg
DMAE is a choline molecule used to treat cognitive decline in elderly patients. It is included in pre-workouts to promote focus and feelings of well-being.
Dosing guidance for performance enhancement is not exceptionally well understood, but 750 mg is a pretty hefty dose compared to other pre-workouts that contain DMAE.
For reference, Chemix pre-workout contains 400 mg of DMAE, while Dark Energy and Assassin V6 contain 750 mg. On 1.5 scoops, it would be 600 mg.
Alpha GPC – 800 mg
Alpha GPC is used for enhancing cognition and increasing power output. It’s usually a 50% yield of actual GPC.
For athletic purposes, doses tend to range from 300 mg to 600 mg. Doses for reducing the effects of cognitive decline are much higher, around 1,200 mg per day. Even on 1.5 scoops, it would be 600 mg.
EnXtra Alpina Galanga Extract – 600 mg
This is an exciting ingredient that I haven’t seen in any pre-workout before.
enXtra is a proprietary extract of Alpinia galanga shown in multiple human studies to increase alertness for several hours significantly.
There is not much dosage information for this ingredient, but typical doses are 200 and 400 mg. On 1.5 scoops, it would be 400 mg.
Caffeine Anhydrous – 400 mg
The Big Poppa of stimulant supplements is in your coffee, tea, soda, heck; it may even be in your sweets and gum (some confectioners add caffeine to their sweets for a kick). Well known for increasing energy, power, and focus, it’s the staple ingredient in all stim-based products. 400 mg is heading towards the higher end of the range you mostly see in pre-workout supplements nowadays (usually ranging between 250 and 450).
Sometimes when you get higher doses of caffeine, there tends (but not always) to be a crash; luckily, with Relentless, there was no crash. On 1.5 scoops, it would be 300 mg of caffeine.
Theobromine – 200 mg
Theobromine is a stimulant that is a “caffeine light” ingredient found in chocolate, some tea plants, and the Kola Nut. Its name means “Food of the Gods,” Greek “theo” meaning gods, and “broma” meaning food. As anyone with a sugar craving, you can sort of understand why.
Most doses range from 100 mg-400 mg, so the 200 mg is in the middle range. And on 1.5 scoops, would be 150 mg.
Methylliberine (as Dynamine ® 40% tasteless) – 100 mg (yielding 40 mg of pure Dynamine) per serving.
Dynamine combines nicely with caffeine to enhance mood, focus, and energy. Unlike caffeine, Dynamine does not harm heart rate or blood pressure (from the NIH). Per the study, the doses were between 100 and 150 mg per serving, putting the 40 mg at less than half the minimum dosage.
In an otherwise highly-dosed formula, this is under-dosed.
