Lean Phase Burn is a thermogenic fat burner from Phase 1 Nutrition. It combines two types of caffeine with a handful of thermogenic ingredients to help boost metabolism.
Phase 1 Nutrition was kind enough to send me over a tub of Lean Phase Burn to try out and review for you all.
For me, Lean Phase Burn is a solid energizing supplement with decent thermogenic properties (i.e. it’ll make you sweat if you’re working out).
It’s not super hard hitting, but definitely provides an above average amount of energy and focus without negative side effects. Check out my list of the strongest fat burning supplements if you want something hardcore. Fat burners tend to give me jitters and side effects, so it’s definitely nice to have a fat burning option I can use without hesitation.

My Experience
Flavor
I tried the Strawberry Candy flavor and it’s really good. I’d definitely recommend it if you’re generally a fan of strawberries or fruity flavors.
Effects
I primarily have used Lean Phase Burn as an afternoon pick me up. I like that it provides me with a quick boost of energy without negative side effects.
I’d say this product is fine even for beginners as long as they’re not super sensitive to caffeine. This is a pretty mild product overall, while still helping me over the afternoon slump. If you prefer your fat burners without any stimulants at all, check out my list of the best non-stim fat burning supplements.
I think this product could also serve as an effective pre workout, but I haven’t tried it in that context.
Side Effects
A major plus of this product is that it doesn’t have any negative effects.
Lean Phase Burn Ingredients
On label, Lean Phase Burn contains many promising ingredients. I’d love to see the dosages increased on Ashwagandha, Grains of Paradise, and GBBGO to bring them in line with clinical doses.
Inulin Agave – 1,400 mg
IInulin is a soluble fiber that can help increase feelings of fullness. It has been shown to possibly help reduce appetite and overall caloric intake in overweight children. However, it should be noted that participants in the study were given 8 grams of inulin, significantly less the amount provided in a serving of Lean Phase Burn (1.4 g).
Acetyl L-Carnitine HCL – 1,000 mg
L-Carnitine is a compound made in the body, composed of lysine and methionine. Once acetylated, it becomes Acetyl-L-Carnitine and is able to cross the blood-brain barrier much more easily.
While it is often included in fat burner products, like Herolean or Superhuman Burn, the research around its fat burning efficacy is mixed, with some positive effects shown for weight loss in obese subjects.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine also has potential in other areas, such as reducing depression, reducing fatigue in older adults, and helping with recovery from exercise.
1,000 mg falls within the standard dosage for this ingredient, though recommended daily intake can be as high as 2.5 g to 3 g, so the amount contained in Lean Phase Burn may need to be supplemented for optimal results.
Caffeine Blend (Caffeine Citrate, Caffeine Anhydrous) – 350 mg
Lean Phase Burn contains a 350 mg caffeine blend, comprised of two caffeine types: caffeine citrate and “caffeine,” which is presumably caffeine anhydrous.
Caffeine citrate is a faster acting version of caffeine when compared to caffeine anhydrous. As such, it also wears off more quickly. It is definitely interesting to see this ingredient included, as it is not very common in supplements.
Some pre workouts that include caffeine citrate are Crack Gold and Wrecked Extreme.
Caffeine anhydrous is the standard form of caffeine found in coffee, energy drinks, and most pre workout supplements.
It’s not clear if the 350 mg amount found on the ingredients label is the total yield of caffeine or the total amount of the blend – caffeine citrate is 50% caffeine, so it’s possible the effective amount of caffeine is slightly less (e.g. hypothetically, if it were comprised of 250 mg caffeine anhydrous and 100 mg caffeine citrate, the effective amount of caffeine would be 300 mg).
Ashwagandha (KSM-66) – 200 mg
KSM-66 is a patented form of ashwagandha. Ashwagandha is a herb native to Northern Africa and India that’s been in use as a medicine for thousands of years.
According to research meta analysis performed by Examine, ashwagandha has consistently shown to notably reduce anxiety and cortisol, the stress hormone. It has also shown to consistently produce a notable increase in power output. Nice.
The clinical dosage of ashwagandha is 300-500 mg, so the 200 mg included in Lean Phase Burn falls a bit short, but it’s still an interesting ingredient to include in this product.
Phenlethylamine HCL – 100 mg
Phenlethylamine HCL is a nootropic ingredient that inhibits the uptake of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. This can create euphoric effects in theory, but I would say I don’t really get any euphoric effects from taking Lean Phase Burn.
Halostachys Capsica (Overground Part Extract) – 25 mg
Halostachys Capsica is a natural source of halostachine, a stimulating alkaloid structurally similar to ephedrine.
Because we don’t know the purity of the ingredient (i.e. we don’t know what percentage of the ingredient is pure halostachine), we can’t say if the 25 mg included is a weak, moderate, or strong dosage. Based on using this product many times, I’d say it comes in on the lighter side. I wouldn’t be concerned about this particular ingredient.
Grains of Paradise (12.5% 6-Paradol, Paradoxine) – 20 mg
Grains of Paradise has some promising research around it, but still needs additional evidence to support its fat loss effects. With that said, there is some interesting research that shows it can activate brown adipose tissue, which can help increase a body’s metabolism, burning more calories in the process.
At 12.5% 6-Paradol, the 20 mg dosage included in Lean Phase Burn is only 50% of the dosage used in human clinical trials that have shown up to a 5% increase in energy expenditure (source).
Gamma-Butyrobetaine HCL – 15 mg
GBB is a “super carnitine” that is converted into L-Carnitine in the body. It also has reported thermogenic effects, causing lots of sweat if taken before working out.
15 mg is a bit lower than the recommended range for GBB.
