1,3 Volt Pre Workout Review

As part of the 2021 crackdown on DMAA by the FDA, 1’3 Volt is no longer being made.

Check out other DMAA pre workouts or my list of the strongest pre workouts.

1’3 Volt pre workout is a brand new pre workout supplement from Static Labz. It notably contains 100 mg of DMAA, 6.4 grams of beta alanine, 400 mg of caffeine, and 30 mg of noopept. This is twice the typical amount of beta alanine found in pre workouts.

Some are calling 1’3 Volt the “Dark Energy killer,” as Dark Energy has been the leading DMAA pre workout of 2019 and 2020.  In fact, these pre workouts have very different effect profiles and achieve different goals. I’ll break down the ingredient profile of 1’3 Volt below, along with my experience with the pre workout and how it compares to Dark Energy.

If you just want the summary, it’s this: I really liked 1’3 Volt. I think it has great energy, focus, and mood elevation. I think the lack of Gaba will make it more popular than Dark Energy, as that ingredient seemed to affect people different. 1’3 Volt is excellent for long workouts; you won’t want to leave the gym.

My Experience

As you’d expect, the first thing you’ll feel after taking 1’3 Volt is the beta alanine tingling. The enormous 6.4 gram dosage makes its presence felt loud and clear after just a few minutes. I don’t mind the tingling effects of beta alanine, so I wasn’t too concerned about the large dosage in this pre workout. Still, it’s impossible to ignore.

After about 50 minutes I started to feel the caffeine, noopept, and DMAA combine. There definitely is an interesting synergy achieved by 1’3 Volt pre workout with these ingredients. I felt 100% dialed in, in the zone, with energy to kill my workout. The feelings of focus and motivation I felt on this pre workout were quite strong and helped me power through long sets. Fatigue definitely took a back seat after this pre workout kicked in.

I also felt really happy and positive after taking this supplement. It is great for long workouts, as I really didn’t want to leave the gym and added a few extra accessory exercises to my training session.

These intense feelings of energy, mood enhancement, and focus lasted about 3 or 4 hours, so 1’3 Volt is definitely a pre workout with long legs. I felt a little fatigued as it started to wear off, but nothing terrible. It wasn’t really a crash, just a little downward dip. Mood-wise I still felt fine, just tired. Like getting off a rocket, basically.

1’3 Volt vs. Dark Energy Pre Workout

I think calling this a “Dark Energy killer” is an interesting marketing tactic, and these pre workouts do have their similarities. They both have DMAA and boost your mood, but I think 1’3 Volt is better for long workouts. They’re both really smooth and don’t leave you feeling crazy or aggressive. I think 1’3 Volt might win on focus.

Dark Energy has more mood enhancing effects than 1’3 Volt. I think this is a result of the DMAA and Gaba combination.

1’3 Volt wins on energy, motivation, and focus, which I think is the result of combining Noopept and Alpha GPC with the DMAA.

Both are great pre workouts, but they have different use cases. I would use 1’3 Volt for intense, long workouts, while I would probably use Dark Energy for lighter, higher volume work. This is entirely personal though – these ingredients can effect people differently.

Ingredient Label

13 Volt Pre Workout Ingredient LabelBeta Alanine – 6.4 grams

This is the highest amount of beta alanine I’ve ever seen in a pre workout and you can feel it. If you hate “the tingles” then this pre workout is probably not the one for you.

While beta alanine has been shown to reliably increase endurance and anaerobic running capacity, it needs to be taken daily to achieve those effects. A one time dose, even massive, isn’t going to get you there by itself. Still, this certainly helps you achieve your daily required intake of beta alanine (and then some).

Citrulline Malate 2:1 – 3.6 grams

This is a curiously low dosage of citrulline malate given the impressive dosage of the other ingredients on this list. I am not sure if it is low to pique curiousity, save money, or achieve a certain effect. Regardless, this is a lower dose than is “clinically” recommended for pump enhancement (you want to shoot for 6 to 8 grams of citrulline malate 2:1).

Betaine Anhydrous – 2.5 grams

Betaine is included to help increase your power output. However, research is pretty inconsistent around this claim. 2.5 grams is a solid dose of this ingredient. (More info: Examine)

Taurine – 1 gram

Taurine achieves a number of different effects on the body. It’s likely included here as a small blood flow enhancer, but this is a minor effect compared to the other ingredients on this label.

Caffeine – 400 mg

Caffeine needs no introduction. This is presumably caffeine anhydrous, the standard form of caffeine found in most energy drinks, coffee, etc.

400 mg is a very solid dose that help boost your energy, focus, and motivation in the gym.

Alpha GPC 50% – 300 mg

Alpha GPC is an interesting ingredient that has been popping up more frequently in nootropics like Overtime and pre workouts like Hooligan.

Limited research has found a notable increase in power output from Alpha GPC supplementation, but this research is limited. (More info: Examine)

It is less clear if 300 mg is a large enough dose for cognitive improvements, as a 2015 study using doses of 250 mg and 500 mg did not measure a cognitive improvement in healthy test subjects.

1,3 DMAA – 100 mg

DMAA is a stimulant that induces feelings of energy, euphoria, and motivation in its users. After coming under scrutiny from the FDA around 2015, there were a few years where DMAA disappeared from pre workouts.

It is possible to buy DMAA powder online, but there are also an increasing number of DMAA pre workout supplements available in the market in 2020.

Noopept – 30 mg

Noopept is a synthetic nootropic ingredient with cognitive boosting and psychostimulatory effects. 30 mg is a very solid dose for achieving noticeable effects.

1'3 Volt Pre Workout Review
4.2
